Our Story
Deshi Gardener was born from a simple longing — the taste of home. Growing up with the rich agricultural traditions of Bangladesh, a South Asian family carried those roots across the ocean to the soil of the Great Lakes Bay Region.
The word "Deshi" (দেশি) means local, native, of the homeland. It's the word Bangladeshis use for things that are authentically, genuinely theirs — the opposite of foreign or artificial. That's exactly what we grow: authentically deshi produce, for the deshi community here in Michigan and beyond.
Every plant we grow carries a story. The bitter melon (karela) that reminds you of dadi's cooking. The pui shak that transforms a simple dal. The ridge gourd your mother grew in the backyard. We grow these not just as food, but as connections to home.
Every plant starts with organic, heirloom seeds — many sourced directly from Bangladesh.
No pesticides, no insecticides, no chemical fertilizers. Ever. We rely on nature's own systems.
We use filtered water and natural irrigation to keep our plants healthy and chemical-free.
Everything is grown right here in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Fresh picked and ready for your table.
We exist to serve the South Asian community in Michigan — and everyone who loves real food.
Every harvest is a labor of love. We treat our plants like family because food should feel like home.
Our garden specializes in produce that's hard to find in mainstream grocery stores — the authentic South Asian varieties that the deshi community craves:
